Objectives

Faulder Avenue, Carterton, consists of 45 properties owned by the Ministry of Defence. Situated nearby to RAF Brize Norton, the RAF’s largest and busiest air station. Phase 1 of Brize Norton comprised a pitched re-roofing project on all the main roofs of the properties. Kingsley Roofing LTD were the main contractors on the Amey Defence Services LTD lead project.

Solutions

This project included the supply and installation of underlay, battens, and roof tiles matching the existing appearance on the street. Prior to this, the surveying and removal of asbestos took place.

To be in accordance with current building regulations, where the soil vent penetrated the roof, a matching ventilation roof tile was connected.

To protect the bats, on the houses where bats were located, bat friendly felt was used with a bat tile on the roof and/or a bat house on the installed on grounds of the property.

Additional works such as replacing the fascia, soffit and rainwater goods were not needed as this was completed on a project four years prior.

For additional fire protection where required, a fire separation structure was constructed and filled with thick rock wool insulation. Intumescent fire resistant paste was used to fill in any gaps.
The completed roof was made up from Marley Mendip concrete tiles in a smooth grey, fixed according to the relevant fixing specification. Using the Marley Mendip tiles meant that the completed works could offer a product warranty of 15 years and a pitched 15 year insurance backed guarantee.

The project ran with minimal delay from the pandemic and required no additional works outside of the scope. This meant that the total cost of the project stayed within budget.
